F.M.A. IA 58A Pucara "Falklands War"

The FMA IA 58 Pucará (Quechua: Fortress) is an Argentine ground-attack and counter-insurgency (COIN) aicraft manufactured by the Fábrica Mititar de Aviones. It is a low-wing twin-turobprop all-metal monoplane with retractable landing gear, capable of operating from unprepared strips when operationally required. The type saw action during the Falklands War and the Sri Lankan Civil War.

  • A-511 IA 58A, Brigada Area III/Grupo 3 de Ataque - Escuadrón Pucará Malvinas, pilot Mayor C.Tomba. On 21 May 1982 the airplane was brought down by Sea Harrier and pilot was captured.
  • A-549 IA 58A, Brigada AreaIII/Grupo 3 de Ataque - Escuadrón Pucará Malvinas. on 14 May 1982 it was captured on BAM Malvinas and transported to Great Britain.
  • A-520 IA 58A, Brigasa Area III/Grupo 3 de Ataque - Escuadrón Pucará Malvinas. It was destroyed by SAS commando on the airport EA Calderón on 15 May 1982.
  • A-568 IA 58A, Brigada Area IV/Grupo 4 de Caza, IV esquadrón de Ataque, base Santa Cruz, Argentina. During Falklands conflict this machine was deployed in flights over the Atlantic.
