GMC CCKW 353 "FUEL TANK"
Ihon 1941 the US Army and the manufacturers got together to see which truck then in production could be manufactured in large quantities relatively easily. It was decided that the 2 ½ ton 6X6 would be the truck that would become the standard vehicle for the US Army. A total of 562,750 were produced in total and of these 4,133 were fuel tankers
Now while the symbols show a fuel tanker with winch having an ‘E’ as a symbol I have never seen a picture of a fuel tanker with a winch and TM9-2800, the US Army technical publication of both 1943 and 1953 for standard US military vehicles, shows the fuel tanker without a winch.1941 to 1943 built CCKW’s had a closed cab and after September 1943 only open cabs as depicted in the Tamiya kit were made. Also of note is that water and fuel tankers could be fitted with canvas tilts at the back so from a distance they appeared to be standard cargo trucks.
