Description

Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund

Like Airfix, the RAF Benevolent Fund is a great British institution. The charity was founded in 1919, just a year after the foundation of the Royal Air Force. Back then, its role was to look after the airmen injured in the Great War and their families. That year, the RAF Benevolent Fund spent £919 on welfare expenditure. In 2011 it spent £23 million.

It is still looking out for the RAF family today, delivering a wide range of services for all members of the RAF family from the youngest child to the oldest veteran. Anyone who serves in the RAF, past, present or future is eligible for its assistance. It could be providing a Second World War Lancaster navigator with a mobility scooter, supporting the widow of an RAF sergeant killed in Iraq, or helping a young man injured in Afghanistan make the transition to civilian life.

Amazingly the charity does all this without any government support. People all over the UK remember the sacrifice that the RAF has made for the nation, and make donations large and small to ensure that their fine work continues.

Airfix also recognises the contribution of the Royal Air Force, and proudly supports the RAF Benevolent Fund, collecting money for them at roadshows and making donation from every sale of specially marked RAFBF kits like this one.

50 pence from the sale of this product will be donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund
