The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet Fighter aircraft was developed from Norhrop Aviation`s P-530 Cobra design. This was a Northrop entry to the international figher competition to General Dynimics F-16A ''Fighting Falcon ''. During this same period, the US Navy was looking for a less expensive lightweight fighter and the McDonnell Douglas Coporation proposed to ather the YF-17 design to Navy requirements and use Northrop as a prime sub-contractor. Redesignatted the F/A-18, the aircraft has several under wing hardpoints for weapons ttc. It is a great attack aircraft with air to surface missiles and bombs and supeb air to air fighting capability. The Hornet exist in four versions. The F/A-18 singel seat Fighter/Attack aircraft, The F/A-18B is a two seat version , The F/A-18C single seater with additional electronic warfare systems ,an the F/A-18D two seater version with night intercept capability. It used by the US Navy ,US Marines , Canada,Australian and several other allied countries.
