Description

The Fw 189 close reconnaissance and liaison aircraft went into series production in the summer of 1940. The Allies later designated it the "Flying Eye". In the hands of an experienced pilot the aircraft was extremely manoeuvrable and was capable of a top diving speed of 502 k/h.

The Fw 189 was the German close reconnaissance plane on the Eastern Front until 1944. The airframe proved to be very stable, in fact some machines even returned safe and sound after Russian ram attacks. A total of 864 of the Fw 189 were produced.
