Scottish regiments have been serving in the British army since the unification of Scotland with England, and the second World War was no exception. Whilst forced to do without their kilts as unsuitable for modern warfare, Highlanders serving in the 8th Army still preferred to march against the enemy to the sound of bagpipes.
