Initially this craft was based around the south-eastern coast of Britain, known as 'Hellfire Corner'. The RAF Air Sea Rescue motto was 'The Sea Shall Not Have Them'. The Type 2 was seen as the ultimate machine at the time and many aircrews owed their lives to the ability of the launch and its crews to be able to detect and rescue them with speed and efficiency.
