DE HAVILLAND DH.88 COMET
One of the most prestigious air races of its day, the MacRobertson England to Australia air race of 1934 was contested by three DH.88 Comet aircraft, with ‘Black Magic’ G-ACSP being the first to take off. Unfortunately engine problems curtailed its involvement while its sister machine ‘Grosvenor House’ won the race. G-ACSR also suffered reliability issues during the race, but its high speed still enabled it to finish in fourth position.
