F-104 G Starfighter "Ferrari"
This Fiat F104G Starfighter of the Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force) was actually made by FIAT in Italy under license.
The U.S.Air Force introduced the Starfighter in 1958. However the last air force in the world to phase it out was the Aeronautica Militare Italiana. They did so, in May 2004, 46 years later.
The 9th Gruppo “Francesco Baracca” of the 4th Stormo (wing) of the Aeronautica Militare Italiana was equipped with F-104s. They flew with the horse emblem on their tails.
In 1989, the Aeronautica Militare Italiana presented Ferrari S.p.A, this decommissioned Starfighter as a gift, painted in Ferrari team red (Rosso Corsa). On the fuselage are the numbers 4-27; the 4 denotes the 4th Stormo and 27 was the race number on the Gilles Villeneuve's F1 car.
