General Background
The Kalinin Front was part of the Soviet Western Front and ran from Kalinin to Tula Russia.
At first the Front was assigned 3 Russian armies, 22nd, 29th and 30th and was a major part in the defense of Moscow. The winter of 1941-42 was one of the worst on record taking a heavy toll on German troops and equipment.
