German Anti-Tank Gun PAK-36 with Crew
By the beginning of World War II on 01 September 1939 the Wehrmacht was armed with 11,200 Pak 35/36 guns that could effectively fight Polish and Soviet light tanks with anti-bullet armour protection, however it couldn’t penetrate British Matilda tanks and Russian T-34 and KVs which resulted in the PaK 35/36 being dubbed the Door Knocker by German soldiers. While being an inefective weapon the Pak 35/36 was not withdrawn for a long time: by the 1st March 1945 German forces still had 216 guns in service with other 670 guns stored in arsenals.
