U.S. M-19 Tank Transporter 45 tons with Hard Top Cap
The M19 tank transporter, a combination of the M20 Diamond T 980/981 Truck and the M9 Rogers 45-ton Trailer, was born out of a 1941 British requirement for a transporter capable of moving vehicles up to 40 tons.
The development & production contract was placed with the Diamond T motor car company for the trucks and Rogers Brothers Corporation for the 45 ton trailer.
When the US entered the war it lacked a suitable transporter for its armoured vehicles, so as a stop gap measure, 200 hundred vehicles were siphoned off, from the British army order, and pressed into US service until the M26 Transporter, the Dragon Wagon, was available.
