MACCHI MC 202 FOLGORE
Obiously showed the inferiority of the old radial-engined fighters, the Italy obtained the production permission of the powerfull engine DB 601.
With this new engine the engineer Castoldi of the Macchi re-projected the Mc 200, changing in the Mc 202.
The increased power and the aerodynamic clainliness made the Mc 202 one of the beautiful italian plane, only the armament were deficent, limited at only 2 Breda Safat of 12,7 mm (0,50) in the first series.
Looking for a fighter able to protect his skies, the Swiss asked also the Italy to test his planes.
The Mc 202 awakened the interest of the swiss pilots who flow it, some exemplars were leased to the Swiss Army Air Corp, who had the possibility to test extensively the plane.
In exchange for the Mc 202, Italy would obtain some important supplying of raw materials and precision machinery
The critics of the light armament, and the beginning of the test of the more powerfull Mc 205, menaged the cancellation of the contract, in favour of the Mc 205.
With the facts of the 8th september 1943 there was the final cancellation of the negotiation.
