The Hawker Hurricane was Britain's first eight gun fighter and outnumbered the illustrious Spitfire by two to one in the Battle of Britain. The Hawker Hurricane was the first operational RAF aircraft capable of a top speed in excess of 300 mph. It was a robust, manoeuvrable aircraft, capable of sustaining fearsome combat damage before write-off. By July 1940 more than twice as many were in service with the RAF than the Spitfire.
